‘México no es para principiantes’: postscript to Universidades Interculturales

A year after publishing an article in English on this subject (in the Journal of Latin American Studies, 45, 779-811, 2013) I read a new doctoral thesis from the prestigious anthropological research institution, CIESAS, and returned to Mexico to renew contacts with those I had interviewed previously. As a result I have had to revise my views and especially the representation of the political context of my findings. I have learnt that the line between naïveté and scepticism in ethnographic research is not easy to draw. The experience ought also to give journal editors pause for thought.

The Spanish version of the paper was written taking these lessons into account (Revista Mexicana de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, 223, 2015)
